We had three workshops in Beijing and Shanghai:
Oct 23/24 in Beijing for RDPAC
Oct 30/31 in Shanghai for Pfizer-Shanghai.
Each workshop was attended by about 60 people and the feedback from the audience and organizers were very positive. After the workshop in Beijing, Pfizer-China has already expressed their interests to sponsor next year's workshop and they hope we can collaborate with
SFDA to organize the workshop.
On Oct 26-28, some of the team members also attended the 10th Beijing Healthcare Industry Forum (HIF). We gave 6 presentations in the forum and chaired one round-table discussion. We had a working breakfast with key leaders of the Beijing Pharma and Biotech Center (BPBC). SAPA has had a very good relationship with BPBC over the past ten years and we have decided to continue our collaborations for next year's HIF.
On Oct 27, joining with CBA, SAPA delegation key members attended a meeting with Shang Yong, the deputy minister of Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), and Wang Hongguang, Director of National Biotech Center. We discussed SAPA's role in next year's
BIOECO-2007 in Tianjing. SAPA and CBA will chair two sections of this meeting.
Many of our former SAPA members are now in Shanghai and Beijing to develop their own business. We took this opportunity to visit some of their companies like: WuXi PharmaTech, ChemPartner, Egret Pharma, Hutchison MediPharma and Venture Pharma. We were very
impressed by the facilities and very proud of their achievements.
On Oct 31, our old friend, Jason Jin, Senior VP of Shanghai Biochip, held a farewell party for the SAPA delegation on Biochip's campus. In this party, we met some key leaders of the Shanghai Municipality Sci & Tech Commission and Shanghai ZhangJiang Group. We discussed some issues about next summer's SAPA conference. We may use Shanghai Biochip's facilities for this conference.
Overall, this was a very successful and fruitful trip. We opened up an avenue for SAPA's future work in China and we saw so many opportunities we can work on.
